Education today is not just about teaching and learning alone. It is about mentoring and accompanying the child. Every child expects appreciation, guidance, encouragement and support. Mentoring should not just be positive. If we only give a pat when it does well is not enough. It also needs to be moulded, pruned, corrected from time to time to respond to challenges, defeats and struggles. A child must taste defeat or come second to know that failure is part of life. That is mentoring – a combination of positive and negative experiences.
